The High Court today green signaled the state election authorities to go ahead with conducting the local body elections. The court is expected to give its notifications very soon. The court has issued these directions on a writ petition by some petitioners, raising objections to the increased reservations.

It may be recalled that the Supreme Court has directed that reservations should not exceed 50 percent in the local body elections. However the state government has given reservations upto 60 percent, because of the situation in the state.
