It was a massive show of strength by the tribals from Visakhapatnam district, against the plans to undertake bauxite mining by the Andhra Pradesh Mineral Development Corporation, to supply raw material to the alumina plant being set up by the Jindal group.

The agitators launched a massive rally under the aegis of all party leaders, at Chintapally today. The demonstrators laid siege to Thahsildhar office in the town. Tribals had been eking out a living on forest produce and their rights over forest lands were won after prolonged struggles. Threatening of serious consequences, the tribal masses affirmed that if mining was allowed, water resources and forest area would be polluted and this had been confirmed by scientists and experts.
