Nine Congress MPs quit parliament over Telangana
AA

Nine ruling Congress party members of parliament tendered their resignations today, over their demands for a separate state of Telangana, roughly halving the government's majority in the Lok Sabha. Senior Congress leader K Keshav Rao, met Upper House Chairman Hamid Ansari this morning and submitted his resignation.

The MPs are angry at government hand-wringing over the four-decades old demand for Telangana to be carved out of the economically less developed region of Andhra Pradesh. The resignations, if accepted, may further hamper the ruling coalition's attempts to pass long-delayed economic reform bills in parliament, but are unlikely to lead to the fall of the government.
