Andhra Pradesh has received a positive response from the Cabinet Secretary K.M. Chandrasekhar on Friday to its proposal to accord national project status to Pranahita-Chevella irrigation project. His response comes on the same day Chief Minister K. Rosaiah received a communication from UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi assuring that the Polavaram project would be declared a national project. Mr. Chandrasekhar is understood to have given this assurance after hearing detailed presentations made by various departmental heads on the important programmes and projects pending clearance by the Centre.

The Cabinet Secretary reportedly said he would convene meetings with the Finance Ministry in September and October to expedite the process of according national project status to Pranahita-Chevella and other pending projects.
