With life in water going scarce this season, fishermen in Adilabad are forced to work as agricultural labourers. Catch worth several crores of rupees got washed away with flood waters from reservoirs only to render fishermen workless.Gates of dams and projects had to be lifted many times since July-end due to flooding of reservoirs and irrigation tanks. The constant outflow of flood water ensured 'eviction' of almost the entire aquatic life during this period thereby depriving fishermen of their livelihood. The loss to the community can be estimated from the quantity of fish that gets collected downstream of the bucket portion of any project after the gates are closed. Villagers in habitations near any project take away several kilos of fish that remain near the spillway.
