Terminal with a unique design concept

The integrated terminal at the Tirupati airport for which Prime Minister Manmohan Singh laid the foundation stone on Wednesday, will have a unique design. It is said the design is made with a concept of 'Garuda'- the carrier of Lord Venkateswara. The design is said to have been hand-picked after an architectural design contest conducted by the government. Once the Rs.174-crore terminal is completed as per the design conceptualised, it will resemble a giant eagle with its enormous wings spread fully. According to a report, the terminal will be an environment-friendly glass and steel structure with all modern passenger amenities, including two aerobridges. Once the modernised terminal becomes fully operational, it is expected to facilitate direct connectivity to USA, Middle East, Europe with significant levels of traffics.
