The one-day bandh call given by the powerloom weavers
affiliated to the CITU and AITUC powerloom workers unions in sircilla textile town passed off peacefully and was near total on Friday. The powerloom weavers of the textile town have been on indefinite strike since last 10 days demanding that the government and the powerloom owners to increase their wages, which were less than minimum wages. As part of their agitational programmes, the weavers and the trade union leaders have called for the Sircilla town bandh on Friday to pressurise the government to resolve their problems at the earliest. The weavers and trade union leaders besieged the RTC depot and did not allow buses to ply for about two hours in the morning and all the shops and business establishments downed their shutters voluntarily to express their solidarity to the weavers.
