Godavari close to danger mark

The Godavari, which is in spate, crossed the second warning level of 48 ft at Bhadrachcalam for the past few days following heavy inflow. The Government put the Khammam, East and West Godavari and Warangal District Collectors on alert and asked them to warn people in low-lying areas and shift them to higher planes, if necessary. The Godavari rose at Bhadrachalam due to the heavy inflows of over 8 lakh cusecs, most of it contributed by intermediary sources joining the river en route Sriramsagar, following torrential rains in the last two days. As a result of the low pressure area in the Bay of Bengal, which, however, has weakened now, several places in the local catchment area in Karimnagar, Warangal and Khammam received heavy rain. Peruru in Khammam district recorded a heavy fall of 25 cm, the highest received by any place on a single day in the State during the season so far.
