Naidu opposes power plant in coastal belt

TDP Chief Chandrababu Naidu has said that thousands of fishermen in the State will lose their livelihood with the establishment of nuclear and thermal power plants in coastal area. While addressing a public meeting at Kovvada Matsyalesam village of Ranasthalam mandal on Tuesday, the TDP president said the government was least bothered to understand the concerns of the fishermen community. He feared that about 5,000 people would become homeless in Kovvada and nearby villages with the establishment of the nuclear power plant. We are not against industrialisation. But it is unfortunate to establish nuclear and many thermal power plants to produce 14,000 mega watts of power in Srikakulam district. The government did not understand the repercussions with the destruction of coastal belt, Mr. Naidu said.
