Legislative backing for tuition fee scheme

The Cabinet sub-committee on tuition fee reimbursement and scholarships scheme here on Tuesday decided to enact a law to provide legislative backing to the welfare measure. The aim is to prevent future governments from tampering or diluting the scheme and ensuring financial security to eligible students.In taking the decision, the nine-member committee, headed by Social Welfare Minister P. Subhash Chandra Bose, went by a directive reportedly issued by Chief Minister K. Rosaiah, sources said.
It was also decided that the government would fully clear the last year's arrears due to college managements and students by October 10 by releasing another Rs. 250 crore. As against the last year's arrears of Rs 2,093 crore, a sum of Rs 1,843 crore had been released so far.
