The five-year-old girl Narthana, who was subjected to torture by her mother and her paramour in Venkatachalam recently and was admitted to a hospital in Chennai, was discharged on Thursday. The girl was brought to Nellore and the ICDS officials are taking care of her.

Collector K. Ramgopal said the girl would be produced in the court today and based on the directions of the court the girl would be given a safe protection. Meanwhile speaking to the news men the girl said, I don't want my mother and I will stay with the aunt (an NGO organiser), pointing to the woman. She urged the accused, Nagesh, who tortured her with burn and knife injuries, to be put behind bars.
