Cases against students may be lifted

A positive decision on lifting cases against students and Telangana activists is likely to be taken in a couple of days. The committee consisting of Home Minister P. Sabitha Indra Reddy and former Home Minister K. Jana Reddy reviewed the issue on Friday and is said to have responded positively in recommending withdrawal of cases.
However, cases registered for damage of public and private property are likely to stay. Moreover, the cases pertaining to the period before the Srikrishna Commission was constituted only are likely to be considered for withdrawal. Nearly 4,000 cases were booked for various offences in the last 10 months and most of them in the violent incidents that erupted after the Union Government came up with its second announcement on the Telangana issue.
