It was a long-pending monetary dispute with his associate, A. Mahipal Reddy, that led to the brutal killing of Telugu Desam Party leader, Chalasani Venkateswara Rao, here at S.R. Nagar four days ago, the police said on Wednesday.The accused, Mahipal Reddy, also known as Mahender Reddy, who was arrested by city police after he surrendered before Gulbarga police in Maharashtra the previous day, told his interrogators that neither was the murder planned nor did it have any political motive.

Reddy told media persons, they had a heated discussion over payment of money after having liquor in his flat at S.R. Nagar on Sunday night. He beat me first with a bottle prompting me to attack him. It was an accidental killing.
