Heavy rush causes melee at Tirumala
For the second consecutive day on Sunday the temple town of Lord Venkateswara witnessed a heavy flow of pilgrims. The second queue complex meant for the ordinary devotees was packed to capacity and the darshan lines stretched outside.Things which appeared to be in control till evening suddenly went out of gear as there was a melee among the devotees at the main entrance of the queue complex. Devotees who grew impatient after waiting long hours tried to rush in.
A couple of them reportedly sustained minor bruises. The TTD staff had a tough time controlling the crowd.The third Saturday of the Peratasi' month is considered auspicious not only by the people of Tamil Nadu but also by the majority of the Andhraities, said temple sources, explaining the unprecedented crowd.The temple hundi' recorded a staggering income of Rs. 2.15 crore on Sunday by way of offerings.
