* Says it needs to draw Lakshman Rekha' between facts and comments

Chief Minister K. Rosaiah has advised the print and electronic media to observe self-regulation in reporting facts. Expressing concern over the fall in standards of reporting the developments, the Chief Minister wanted a Lakshman Rekha to be drawn between facts and comment.

There has to be a clear distinction between fact and comment as comments are taking precedent over facts on several occasions, he said. In a message sent on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of Prajasakti daily here on Sunday, Mr. Rosaiah admitted that there were bound to be lapses in the implementation of welfare schemes given their magnitude.

Media should ensure that the lapses were brought to the notice of the Government in a constructive way for which journalists needed to thoroughly verify the issues before reporting them.
