DSC-2008 row: government seeks opinion

Confusion reigns in government circles over interpreting the Supreme Court's order directing the High Court to dispose of the petition challenging the rule providing 30 per cent reservation to candidates with D.Ed qualification in the DSC-2008 recruitment. While some interpret it as a green signal to fill 70 per cent of Secondary Teacher Grade posts, others argue that the order does not explicitly say so.
The government will also seek the Advocate General's advice. All this exercise is expected to take a week or 10 days. What is clear however is the Apex Court wants the High Court to dispose of the pending petition by January 2011 while disposing of the contempt petition filed by D. Ed candidates against the State government as well as the special leave petition filed by the State seeking permission to fill 70 per cent of SGT posts.
