Don't lift protest cases, says panel
A team of legal experts deputed by the state government has strongly opposed withdrawal of around 50 per cent of the cases connected to Telangana and United Andhra agitations in which the protesters indulged in arson and violence. The home minister, P. Sabita Indra Reddy, said cases relating to damage to private and public properties and those which involve grievous offences are unlikely to be closed.
Legal experts have opposed withdrawal of 50 per cent of cases and have given green signal for lifting other cases, she added. We are pursuing them on a fast pace. We will be issuing a GO for each case to close it. The cases will be lifted in all the three regions. Police filed as many as 1,171 cases against 5,374 people from November last to August 15 this year.
