The twin cities wore a festive look on Friday as tens of hundreds of women turned up at every nook and corner to participate in Bathukamma festival on the last day of the nine-day festivities that also coincided with Durgasthami. The participation in the festival increased manifold this year with the people taking part in it enthusiastically after the government declared it an official function.

Later, they drove to the nearby lakes or tanks to leave the flower-bedecked Bathukammas in the water. The Tank Bund on Friday night was teeming with thousands of women and children who took part in special Bathukamma celebrations. The whole Necklace Road and Secretariat stretch came alive with folk songs dedicated to Bathukamma festival.
