Pranahita-Chevella: State team to visit Mumbai
A team of officials headed by Adityanath Das, secretary, Irrigation, will visit Mumbai later this week for talks with Maharashtra to discuss a date for a joint meeting to identify the areas in that State likely to be submerged by the Pranahita-Chevella project and details of compensation payable by Andhra Pradesh.
The decision to depute the team to Maharashtra was taken by Major Irrigation Minister P. Lakshmaiah at a meeting of officials with a view to elicit the long overdue response from that State on the project.
He said Andhra Pradesh would not relent on the contempt petition filed against Maharashtra before the Supreme Court for defying its interim order not to install gates on the Babli project.
He said the Chief Minister would write to his Karnataka counterpart, drawing his attention to the fresh allocation of 23 tmcft of water from Alamatti and Tungabhadra dams to industries.
