TIFR to function from next academic year
When Prime Minister Manmohan Singh lays the foundation stone for Tata Institute of Fundamental Research today, he would be sowing seeds for yet another centre of excellence focussing on inter-disciplinary sciences having contemporary real life applications.
Addressing a media conference, Mutansir Barma Director of TIFR said the first building housing the Centre would come up at a cost of Rs. 70 crore by March 2013.Seyed E. Hasnain, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Hyderabad, which had entered into MoU with TIFR, said it was part of the university's vision to become a knowledge hub, eventually having a cluster of scientific institutions much like the famed ones in Boston and South Carolina universities.
TIFR, C.R. Rao Institute of Mathematics, National Institute of Smart Governance and National Museum of Statistics would form part of this cluster.
