Manmohan urged to direct FCI to make godown space

Cash credits to SHGs doubled to enable them lift paddy crop Chief Minister K. Rosaiah has requested Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to direct the Food Corporation of India to evacuate stocks of parboiled rice and wheat in its godowns in the State after making available a minimum of 250 rail rakes every month.
In a memorandum to Mr. Manmohan Singh before he left for New Delhi, Mr. Rosaiah said the FCI was holding over 32 lakh tonnes of rice and 2 lakh tonnes of wheat in the State. Talking to media persons later, Mr. Rosaiah said it was decided to double the cash credit to SHGs from Rs. 200 crore to Rs. 400 crore to lift the arrivals in market yards.
He regretted that the dharna led by Telugu Desam president N. Chandrababu Naidu in protest against denial of permission to meet the Prime Minister to present the crisis on account of huge arrivals in market yards did not go to enhance the image of the State.
