36% give G-I retest a miss

The AP Public Service Commission on Monday conducted a re-examination for Group-I candidates who missed the preliminary examination on account of the Telangana bandh on September 5. The bandh had been called to demand 42 per cent quota in Group-I jobs for the Telangana region.Surprisingly, 36 per cent of applicants did not appear for the exam.
Some 1,608 candidates had registered, but only 1,037 turned up. The exam, however, went off peacefully and was not marred by the kind of ugly scenes that occurred on September 5, when the exam centre at Osmania University was attacked and a question paper leaked by T-agitators. APPSC will announce the preliminary results in 10 days.
