Bhanwarlal, Principal Secretary, Home, will be the new Chief Electoral Officer. His name has been cleared by the Election Commission of India from among a panel of three names forwarded by the State government. A communication to this effect was received by the State government from the EC on Wednesday, it is learnt. Mr. Bhanwarlal served a long stint as district Collector of Hyderabad and later worked as Commissioner of Civil Supplies.

The other two names recommended by the State government for appointment as CEO were - M.G. Gopal, secretary A.P. Public Service Commission and S.P. Tucker, Principal Secretary, Irrigation.The CEO's post fell vacant after I.V. Subba Rao was transferred to the Central services. The State government is expected to issue a notification appointing Mr. Bhanwarlal as CEO in a day or two.
