Several advocates of the AP High Court, including S. Satyam Reddy, former president of HC Advocates' Association, on Wednesday opposed the government's decision to change the name of the Telugu Lalita Kala Thoranam, saying it was not in consonance with the recent guidelines issued by the Centre.

In a statement, the advocates said the decision to name it after Rajiv Gandhi would hurt the self-respect and sentiments of Telugus. Meanwhile, Varalakshmi, Telangana Jagruti Hyderabad convener, in a statement while opposing the decision, suggested to the government to name the open air theatre as Kaloji Telugu Lalita Kala Thoranam', as a mark of respect to the praja kavi' Narayana Rao.

It would amount to honouring the sentiments of people belonging to the region. She warned of a suitable response' from people if the demand was not conceded.
