* Lalita Kala Thoranam not to be renamed

The Rajya Sabha member and Parliamentary standing committee on science and technology chairman, Mr T. Subbirami Reddy, on Saturday, wrote to Chief Minister, Mr K. Rosaiah, asking him to withdraw the GO on renaming Lalitha Kala Thoranam. Mr. Reddy stated that he was seeking withdrawal of GO since he wanted to obey the wishes of people.

The MP had earlier taken an initiative to develop the open air auditorium into a closed air-conditioned hall. Infact, He had requested the government to rename auditorium after the former prime minister, Rajiv Gandhi. Anyhow, His suggestion was welcomed by the government.

This had led to the Opposition parties condemning the state governments move to rename Thoranam. Meanwhile, They alleged that the renaming of Lalitha Kala Thoranam would hurt the sentiments and emotions attached to crores of Telugu people and appealed to government to retain old name itself.
