Chavan offers to quit on housing scam

Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan on Saturday, offered to tender his resignation in the light of scam exposed which revealed that three of chief minister's relatives were allotted flats in Adarsh Group Housing Society in Mumbai, meant for the families of Kargil war victims. Summoned in New Delhi in the wake of an embarrassing housing scam, the beleaguered Chief Minister met Congress President Sonia Gandhi to discuss the issue.
However, Gandhi constituted a two-member team comprising Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee and Defence Minister A.K. Antony to probe the allotment of Adarsh Housing Society flats, originally meant for families of soldiers killed in the 1999 Kargil conflict with Pakistan.
